Well, okay, NOW they're all up...

I realized that I still had some photos to load on my Flickr page.  These are the set from our days in Cascas.
Cascas is a small town, ~4500 residents, in the foothills of the Andes mountains, south of Trujillo.  We traveled by bus, and most of our route was on gravel roads.  The roads were narrow,
with many twists and switchbacks in the last, steepest section.

We spent a couple of days working there.  We happened to be there during a festival week, and were awakened to cannon shots (yep!) and a live band (yep!) at ~5 AM on the second day of our trip.  Wendi had a chance to play foosball with the locals one evening as we walked home through the plaza toward our hotel.

They're still fresh, these memories...

They're all UP...

We had some crazy weather over the weekend here in Puget Sound.  On Saturday, we had snow in Seattle, and then Sunday, the temp warmed up and the rain began.  The picture on the left is the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton; I don't think I've ever been on the ferry when it was covered with snow.  We have a reputation for lots of rain, but the best-kept secret is that the rain is rarely heavy - it sprinkles a lot, but we get about the same yearly total rainfall as Kansas City, my hometown.  We are on track for setting a record for rainfall here in Western Washington, and the governor has declared a state of emergency.  (In this article in our local paper, it is reported that we set a record of 7.5 inches of rain in 24 hours!)

So, we spent a weekend at home, and I had the time to get all the Mac Med Peru 2007 photos up on a new collection on my Flickr page.

I've also put a few more panoramas up, in a new set.

Thank you all for your interest in my photos.  So far, my Flickr page has had over 1500 views, and I got some messages this morning to include some of the photos in the Flickr groups for Peru Photos  and Peruvian Images.  I'm glad that others enjoy the photos.

Sitting in my family room, in front of the fireplace, while the snow and rain kept us in this weekend, Wendi noted that it was hard to believe that, just a month ago, we were in the heat and humidity of the Amazon!  It really seems a world away.

Panoramic views...

I've posted three panoramic views of the trip on my Flickr site.    These are views taken from:
  • the back of the compound in Florencia,
  • the walkway of the Amazon Lodge, and
  • the roof of the "chifa" (Chinese) restaurant rooftop.
These are pretty big files, and are best viewed by zooming until the picture fills the screen vertically, and scrolling left and right to view the panorama.  You can do this by downloading the file to your computer, or on the Flickr site.  To do this on the Flickr site, click on the picture, then look for the icon that says "All sizes."  When you click on this icon, you can look at the "original size" picture, which will let you scroll around the photo.

New Blog Feature... Slideshow!

We had a wonderful opportunity to tell some of the stories of our trip to our church this week. We said a few words during the church service, and showed a few slides. And then, we presented to a couple of our small groups in the evening - many more stories, and many more slides!

Thank you all for your interest in our work. I hope that our message was not so much about us, but about the great privilige and blessing that it has been for us to serve our Lord, and to serve alongside brothers and sisters who also love the Lord. One of the things that I shared was that this work has certainly put a burden on our hearts for the people of Peru, for the patients we served, for the missionaries in Peru and Uruguay, and for the team members. I know that Wendi will also carry this burden from her trip to Bolivia with Women of Purpose:  see her blog at www.WPSWOP.blogspot.com.

I'm still sorting through our photos, and will be adding more to my Flickr site. You should also notice a new feature on the blog, a slideshow of some of these photos.

More Photos...

I've pulled some of my favorite pictures out of the two weeks, and put them in a set on Flickr called "Mac Med Peru 2007 Postcards".  I used these as a slide show yesterday, to tell some stories of the trip.   I'll still plan to put the rest of the pictures up over the next few days.

We also got a comment from Janie Mathis:

Thanks for posting these great photos.  It adds greatly to the ones I took.  Some things you captured jogged my memory and made me laugh.  I can't wait for the rest to be posted.

Here is the website for my photos on Picasa.  It is for public viewing so anyone can see them.

Thanks, Janie!

And, if others want to let me know, I'd love to see more photos, and post the link to them here.

"So, how was your vacation?"...

I've uploaded another couple of sets of photos:
I've also become aware that I've had a setting selected which required registration with Blogger prior to posting comments here.  I apologize to those of you who wanted to post comments during our trip, and found this to be a barrier.  You should now be able to post a comment here without registering or logging in.

Today, I'll have a chance to show some pictures and tell some stories to the medical providers in my practice; I can imagine that others from the team are telling stories in Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, Florida.  And, I'll have the chance to speak before our church this weekend, in two different settings.

It's tough, isn't it, when someone asks, often in passing, "So, how was your trip?" or even, "how was your vacation"?  There is so much to say, and so many stories.  As I respond to these questions, I pray that my message is not about me, not about our work, but about the work that the Lord has done through us.

1 Peter 3:15 (New International Version)

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Our first batch of photos are online...

I have posted our first batch of photos online.

Our photos can be found on my Flickr page, at www.Flickr.com/photos/dougfelts/.

The first batch has been put in a set called Mac Med Peru 2007 Arrival.

In the coming days, I'll be putting other pictures online.  For those of you who were on the trip with us, you can view them online, leave comments if you wish, and download copies to have on your own computer or print.  If you need a particular picture in a higher quality format, just drop me an email at DougFelts@gmail.com.
